Ericsson looks east

Swedish equipment manufacturer Ericsson is reportedly contemplating making a move for a Chinese rival to give it a stronger presence in one of the world’s largest telecoms markets. Shangjai Daily reports that Ericsson is in talks with an unnamed Chinese supplier, thought to be either UTStarcom or Harbour Networks. Ericsson is known to be keen to increase its share of China’s 3G mobile and IP markets. Earlier this week the Swedish firm said it would invest USD1 billion over the next five years to expand its Chinese operations.
