Mobile users rise 24%

According to a statement by regulator Anatel, the total number of mobile customers in Brazil rose by 23.8% – or 15.6 million – in the first ten months of 2005, to reach 81.2 million at the end of October. Brasilcel (Vivo) held on to its number one position with a 35.6% market share, with TIM Brasil in second place (23%) and Claro in third (21.8%). Telemig claimed 5.3% of the market at the same date, while Brasil Telecom GSM had 2.2%, CTBC had 0.45% and Sercomtel Celular claimed 0.11%.

Meanwhile Vivo has launched a Christmas marketing campaign offering customers BRL40 (USD18.22) worth of free calls per month to local or mobile phones for six months, and 100 free SMS or MMS messages for 30 days.
