Telemar modifies contracts to enable VoIP

16 Nov 2005

According to reports in the local press, Brazilian fixed line operator Telemar has eliminated a clause from a series of broadband contracts which banned the use of VoIP services. Users of the operator’s Velox broadband service had complained that VoIP services were not included in their contracts, and following the modification, the contracts now say that ‘VoIP is permitted as long as it does not infringe regulations and as long as calls to telephony networks result in payment of interconnection fees’. Rival operator Global Village Telecom (GVT) has threatened to sue Telemar over the move.
