Malaysian long-distance operator REDtone International said it chose not to place a bid for the country’s third 3G licence in order to focus on entering the wireless market as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). REDtone, which claims to have 35% of Malaysia’s discounted call market, said that a lack of 3G infrastructure would not hamper its plan to broaden its earnings by reselling a full suite of mobile services including voice, data and content downloads.
