Incoming government causes controversy with plan to protect DT

The new German government has declared that it will exempt Deutsche Telekom’s (DT’s) planned EUR3 billion broadband network from regulatory action for two to three years, to ensure ‘adequate returns’ on the incumbent telco’s investment. The move has already angered DT’s rivals, including UK telco BT, who expected to be granted wholesale access to the upgraded network to offer their own high speed services.
