And then there were three… PDVSA receives fixed line licence

11 Nov 2005

Venezuelan oil supplier Petróleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) has become the second state-run company to receive a fixed line telephony licence in as many weeks. PDVSA has initially received permission to operate an internal communications network, but will later be allowed to expand its reach nationally and abroad. Its licensing comes a week after government controlled CVG Telecom was given the go ahead by regulator Conatel to launch fixed line telephony and internet services in eight of Venezuela’s 24 states. Prior to CVG’s authorisation, incumbent CANTV was the only licensed wireline operator in the country.
