9 Nov 2005

The Japanese government has revealed plans to issue three new mobile licences to domestic carriers Softbank, eAccess and IP Mobile – the first time in twelve years that the mobile market has been opened up to new players. Following approval from the regulatory body, expected today, the new licences will be awarded next year. The government hopes the move will boost competition among existing mobile operators NTT DoCoMo, Vodafone KK and au Group.
