FT to fight broadband fine

9 Nov 2005

France Télécom has said it will appeal a EUR80 million fine which is being imposed by the country’s anti-trust regulator. The Conseil de la Concurrence is fining the telco for abusing its dominant position in the high speed internet sector between 1999 and 2002. FT is said to have made it difficult for alternative providers to compete effectively because of its wholesale ADSL offer, despite having been ordered to stick to certain conditions to ensure rivals had fair access to its networks. For its part, France Télécom says the fine is “disproportionate” and adds that it has decided to appeal.
