Brazil boosts Telecom Italia figures

9 Nov 2005

Telecom Italia has posted a 1.4% rise in EBITDA for the first nine months of 2005 as strong growth at its mobile business in Brazil helped offset a weaker performance in its domestic market. EBITDA for the nine months to the end of September reached EUR9.704 billion (USD11.4 billion) on the back of a 5.5% rise in revenues, to EUR21.96 billion; operating profit rose 2.2% to EUR5.89 billion. The group’s cellular arm Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) reported a 10.2% hike in revenues, up to EUR9.49 billion, leading to a 5.1% rise in EBITDA to EUR4.21 billion; the figures were propelled by a 37% rise in sales in Brazil. Fixed line turnover rose 2.6% to EUR13.8 billion, with much of the growth coming from the European broadband sector.
