BTC says ‘Viva GSM’, as cellco launches with 10,000 users

7 Nov 2005

VivaTel, Bulgaria’s third mobile operator, launched its GSM network on Saturday, and announced that it had already signed up 10,000 customers. VivaTel, owned by national fixed line operator Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC), is hoping to attract further users with pre-paid calls priced at BLG0.37 per minute, lower than rival GloBul’s rate of BLG0.39, but more than market leader MTel’s BLG0.33. Both MTel and GloBul have cut their tariffs recently in anticipation of VivaTel’s launch. In an attempt to lure subscribers away from the two established networks, the newcomer has introduced a range of value added services, including GPRS, pre-paid international roaming, free content downloads and two business user plans.
