No room in mobile market for broadcaster

4 Nov 2005

Broadcaster Vietnam Television (VTV) has had its request for permission to enter Vietnam’s mobile market turned down by the government. On Wednesday Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung reaffirmed an earlier state ruling that no more new mobile network licences will be granted. According to Tan Dung, the government has ceased licensing in order to ensure a high level of service quality from the six existing networks VinaPhone, MobiFone, Viettel, S-Fone, VP Telecom and Hanoi Telecom. He said that VTV must partner with an existing cellco in order to enter the market.
