3GPP backs TD-SCDMA

3 Nov 2005

China’s homegrown 3G standard TD-SCDMA has received approval by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). The industry body has passed the standard under the name TR 34.943. TD-SCDMA technology was developed jointly by equipment manufacturers ZTE and Datang Mobile, plus the government’s Research Institute of Telecommunications Transmission. Chinese authorities are hoping that 3GPP backing will help spur developers and speed up implementation of the new technology.
