Vodafone launches 3G

1 Nov 2005

Vodafone Australia has rolled out commercial 3G services in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra metropolitan areas, and at airports in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The cellco is the third in the country to launch a 3G offering, behind Hutchison Telecommunications Australia (3) which was the first to introduce 3G in 2001, and Telstra, which rolled out its 3G network last month. The country’s fourth provider, Optus Mobile, launched a limited 3G service to businesses and government agencies in Canberra in April 2005, and is planning to launch a residential offering later this year. Vodafone plans to extend its network to cover metropolitan Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in the near future, with New South Wales, Central Coast and Queensland Gold Coast to follow in 2006.
