1 Nov 2005

Mobile operator Safaricom has predicted that it will have signed up a total of five million subscribers by the end of 2007. The cellco hit the three million mark in October 2005, well ahead of its schedule of three million by 2020. In a separate story, rival Celtel Kenya has signed a KES4 billion (USD1.37 billion) deal with Ericsson for the expansion of its network. The cellco hopes the agreement will enable it to provide more efficient services for its customers and help it to gain ground on Safaricom.
