Palestine to get new GSM operator

1 Nov 2005

The Palestinian Territory government has revealed plans to release additional frequencies so that a second GSM operator can be licenced in the West Bank and Gaza. If approval for the frequency release is granted, a public tender will be held for the GSM licence. The winner will compete with monopoly cellco Jawwal, which claimed around 300,000 subscribers at the end of September 2005. There are also an estimated 400,000 other mobile subscribers in the country, who use cellular services provided by Israeli cellcos.
