Mobile market to double by 2008

1 Nov 2005

The number of mobile phone users in Azerbaijan is expected to double to almost four million by 2008, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies told local newspaper Assa Irada. There are currently 1.8 million mobile subscribers in the country, up from 1.6 million at the start of 2005, 1.5 million of which are signed up with Azercell, a subsidiary of the TeliaSonera- Turkcell holding company Fintur. The remaining 300,000 subscribe to Israeli-owned Bakcell.

In a bid to improve its service and help close the gap on its rival, Bakcell this week tied up a ‘multi-million dollar’ deal with billing and customer relationship management (CRM) specialist Formula Telecom Solutions of Israel. Formula will provide the cellco with its Advanced Leap CRM platform to help improve its customer management and billing systems.
