TIM profit up; Telesp loss widens

Mobile holding company TIM Participacoes has reported a net profit of BRL96.7 million (USD42 million) for the third quarter of 2005, up from BRL69.9 million recorded a year earlier. Revenues for the group increased by 13% to BRL986 million, while EBITDA grew 9.4% to BRL255 million. The company’s customer base grew by 34.5% to 6.94 million at the end of September, while ARPU stood at BRL27.86 a month.

Meanwhile Telesp Celular Participacoes (Telesp) has posted a net loss of BRL215 million (USD94 million) in the third quarter, having ballooned from the BRL153 million loss reported in the same quarter of 2003, but lower than the BRL279 million loss in Q2 2005. Net revenues improved to BRL1.87 billion from BRL1.83 billion a year earlier, but EBITDA fell by 16% year-on-year to BRL530 million. The company’s customer base grew by 18.4% to 19.3 million during the quarter.
