Vodafone launches mobile vending machine

28 Oct 2005

UK cellco Vodafone this week launched trials of a mobile phone vending machine in Manchester offering a fully charged pre-paid handset with GBP1 airtime for GBP30 (USD53). The Quickphone Kiosks offer three different handsets paid for via chip-and-PIN payment using a debit or credit card. Vodafone is hoping the machines will be used by those who have lost or forgotten their handsets and are desperate to make calls. Two kiosks are currently operational in public areas of Manchester with a nationwide rollout planned.
