28 Oct 2005

According to local newspaper reports, fixed and mobile operator Brasil Telecom has revealed plans to launch a voice over IP (VoIP) service on 1 December, with plans to have signed up 180,000 customers by the end of 2006. The operator hopes that the rollout of VoIP services will help to counteract the decline in fixed line voice traffic. At the end of October 2005 it claimed 892,000 broadband subscribers in the country, a figure which it expects to rise to one million by the end of the year.
