Mexico’s Telmex says sales rose 8.7% to MXN41.13 billion in the third quarter, from MXN37.82 billion in the same period last year, although higher financial costs caused net profit to drop from MXN6.95 billion to MXN6.83billion. The rise in sales was attributed largely to the full incorporation of Brazil’s Embratel, compared to only two months in third quarter 2004. Telmex added 284,000 fixed line customers, taking its total to 18.1 million. Local traffic volumes were up 0.6% while domestic long-distance traffic was up 5.9%. Telmex had 903,000 broadband internet customers in Mexico at the end of September.
