Embratel reports USD24 million net profit

Brazilian long-distance operator Embratel has reported a net profit of BRL54.3 million (USD23.9 million) for the third quarter of 2005, compared to a net loss of BRL66.6 million a year earlier. The profit, however, is lower than expectations of BRL100 million for the quarter. Revenues stood at BRL1.87 billion for the quarter, up 5.5% on the Q3 2004 figure, with domestic long-distance revenues increasing by 10%. EBITDA rose by 95.5% to BRL471 million.
