China Mobile readying HSDPA test

27 Oct 2005

China’s largest wireless operator, China Mobile, says it will be ready to trial HSDPA high speed cellular technology within two months, although tests will be confined to selected areas. A report from Asia Pulse says the telco is unlikely to roll out HSDPA nationwide, and will instead concentrate on providing coverage in cities. HSDPA offers upgraded data transmission speeds on WCDMA and TD-SCDMA 3G networks. 3G licences have not yet been issued by the Chinese government, although China Mobile is widely expected to receive a concession.
