Globe wants to offer 3G

25 Oct 2005

Mobile operator Globe Telecom has filed a licence application with the Filipino regulator, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to use the radio frequencies it needs to upgrade its mobile network to offer 3G services. Globe completed a video call over a trial 3G network in July, and is the first cellco to formally file an application for a UMTS licence in the country. Globe said it is prepared to pay the annual fees required for the use of the appropriate frequency band, as well as a deposit of PHP300 million. The NTC must act upon the application within 90 days.
