Virgin, Carphone Warehouse to launch French MVNO venture

24 Oct 2005

Virgin Mobile Holdings and Carphone Warehouse have announced plans to launch a mobile offering in France in the first half of 2006. The two plan to jointly set up a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that will lease capacity on France Télécom’s Orange network and launch services under the banner Virgin Mobile France. More details on the new offering and its service plans will be announced closer to the launch, although the pair say that they will retain the regional identity of Carphone’s Breizh Mobile brand in Brittany and western France, a MVNO set up by Charlie Dunstone’s OMER Telecom unit in 2004.
