Telefonica to launch VoIP in 2006

According to local paper Estado de Sao Paulo, fixed line telco Telefonica is planning to launch a VoIP service in the first quarter of 2006 at the latest, with a possibility of the service being launched before Christmas. The telco hopes the introduction of VoIP will promote its broadband product Speedy, which currently claims around 1.1 million subscribers. It is also planning to launch IP television services in the second quarter of 2006.
