KDDI sees surge in profit

24 Oct 2005

KDDI Corp has reported strong growth in net profit for the third quarter of 2005, to JPY48.85 billion, up from JPY26.18 billion a year earlier. The telco has attributed the surge to a sharp decline in special losses as well as the continued strength of its ‘au’ mobile operation. For the six months to the end of September, operating profit for au jumped 29% on revenue growth of 10.4% as its subscriber numbers expanded to 20.74 million from 18.19 million a year earlier. Average revenue per user (ARPU) in the three months to September rose to JPY7,190 a month from JPY7,050 in the previous quarter, while the churn rate for the quarter stood at 1.21%, down 0.28% from a year earlier.
