The US-based equipment manufacturer UTStarcom has been awarded a USD42 million contract by China Telecom. The deal calls for the expansion of Telecom’s limited mobility PAS networks, which offer city-wide mobile services at cheaper rates than those charged by conventional cellular operators. UTStarcom says there are now over 84 million users of XiaoLingTong PAS services in China, up from 65 million at the start of the year.
