Tele2 begins commercial GSM services

19 Oct 2005

Tele2 Croatia has launched commercial GSM services, three months after the inauguration of its mobile network. The network currently covers the capital Zagreb, but Tele2 has agreed a three-year deal to roam over the nationwide network of rival VIPnet, a subsidiary of Telekom Austria. Tele2 is offering both contract and pre-paid services – the latter under the ‘Bla Bla’ banner. The Tele2 consortium paid USD40 million for its dual GSM-1800/UMTS licence in December 2004 – the third such 3G concession awarded there. It plans to introduce UMTS services early next year.
