New rules for WiMax

According to reports in financial newspaper Valor Economico, Brazilian regulator Anatel plans to introduce new rules to define the use of WiMax services. Anatel has proposed alterations to regulations for use in the 3.5GHz band, and also plans to auction new licences for 3.5GHz and 10.5GHz.

In a separate story, regional telco Impsat has revealed plans to invest BRL11 million (USD5 million) in new infrastructure to develop WiMax technology over the next three years. The company is planning to expand its network in twelve cities across the country with a particular focus on WiMax.
