Government supports Telstra’s rural plans

The Australian government has said that it would welcome any commitment by Telstra to rollout 3G networks in rural and regional centres. According to the telco’s CEO Sol Trujillo, Telstra plans to shut down its CDMA network which is currently used in rural areas, and replace it with 3G technology. Trujillo said that customers in these areas will not experience any reduction in services, but farmers have expressed concerns.
