Bouygues introduces flat-rate wireless internet

14 Oct 2005

French mobile operator Bouygues Telecom is launching a flat-rate monthly subscription plan for its EDGE-based i-mode mobile internet service. Customers will pay EUR9.90 a month on top of their normal monthly tariff for unlimited high speed wireless internet access, e-mail, instant messaging and music downloads. Bouygues claimed 1.23 million i-mode customers at the end of July from its total customer base of around 7.5 million. i-mode was originally developed by NTT DoCoMo of Japan, which has over 45 million subscribers using the technology in its home market, but has been licensed to more than a dozen operators worldwide, including Telefónica, KPN, O2, MTS of Russia and Cellcom Israel.
