Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) has announced plans to launch mobile digital TV services sometime next year. TIM has teamed up with local broadcaster Mediaset to begin trials of the services which will transmit DVB-H services to compatible 3G handsets. The cellco will offer content from Canale 5, Retequattro and Italia Uno, and expects to begin selling the DVB-H-enabled phones next year. Earlier this month Italian public broadcaster RAI launched trials of Italy’s first dedicated mobile TV channel in partnership with UMTS cellco H3G Italia.
