Telecom considering AAPT options

12 Oct 2005

Telecom New Zealand has not ruled out a possible sale of its Australian division AAPT, although it is also looking at alternative strategies which would allow it to maintain a presence in the Australian market. Company spokesperson Philip King commented: “’Some engagement has been occurring, however there is no proposal on the table and we remain open to consider alternatives as and when they arise”. King added that Telecom is looking at the possibility of an alliance with one or more players, although no further details were given. Telecom acquired a majority stake in AAPT in 1999, taking full control the following year, but the division has failed to provide the expected returns.
