GC to add VoIP

International carrier Global Crossing says its Mexican unit is preparing to add voice services to its portfolio for the first time. Global Crossing has been offering data services in Mexico for six years, but has now received a licence to allow it to add voice-over-IP telephony. A press statement said: “The company will now be permitted to sell voice services directly to Mexican-based businesses and carriers.” Several firms, including dominant player Telmex and long-distance operator Avantel, already provide VoIP-based telephony in Mexico.
