Magyar Telekom to merge with T-Mobile

Fixed line operator Magyar Telekom has announced plans to merge with its 100%-owned subsidiary, T-Mobile Hungary. Under the proposed merger, T-Mobile will continue to exist as an independent brand and operate as an independent line of business within Magyar Telekom. Magyar said the move will result in cost savings of between HUF10 billion and HUF20 billion – although some analysts claim this is unrealistic – and will boost competition in the fixed and mobile markets.
