Nera Networks tests WiMAX in Bulgaria

6 Oct 2005

Norwegian wireless telecoms equipment developer Nera Networks yesterday introduced WiMAX technology to Bulgaria, demonstrating the platform ahead of the country’s forthcoming auction of 3.5GHz wireless licences. The government hopes that the new concessions will encourage operators to deploy wireless infrastructure capable of providing wireless high speed data, voice, vide, and multimedia services based on WiMAX. The technology can be used for a number of applications, including ‘last mile’ broadband connections, cellular backhaul, hotspots, and high speed connectivity for businesses.
