Carriers prepare for VoIP competition

Japan’s domestic operators are facing increasing competition in the VoIP sector, with a number of foreign companies looking to enter the market – including Luxembourg-based Skype, Microsoft, Time Warner, Google and Yahoo. Softbank and NTT Communications are currently both major players in the VoIP market, and rumours have emerged that they could join forces to stay ahead of newcomers.
