Marconi and Pirelli team up for network transmission

UK-based Marconi and Italian vendor Pirelli Broadband Solutions have signed a cooperation agreement to offer next-generation network transmission solutions to telecoms operators worldwide. Under the terms of the agreement Marconi will offer Pirelli’s City8TM Multiservice Platform and CWDM Metro Access System carrier-class platform to its customers. The City8 TM platform is managed by Marconi’s ServiceOn Network Management System, which it claims allows users to remotely manage an entire telecoms network, increasing efficiency and reducing operating costs. The pair say the combined system will help to eliminate the bottlenecks in metro and access areas and better manage the flow of broadband traffic.
