Vodafone announces mobile TV, internet plans in Czech Republic

4 Oct 2005

UK-based mobile network operator Vodafone Group is to invest in mobile TV and high speed internet access in the Czech Republic through its local subsidiary Oskar, says the country’s IT Minister Dana Berova. The Czech Prime Minister Jiri Paroubek met with Vodafone CEO Arun Sarin last Friday to seek reassurances that its interest in Oskar was a long term one, and that it is keen to be part of the ongoing development of the Czech telecoms market. Oskar plans to launch a trial 3G network offering mobile TV and high speed data transfer services, but is yet to decide on a date for commercial launch. Under the terms of its licence it must roll out its UMTS network to Prague by January 2008.
