28 Sep 2005

Maldives GSM operator Dhiraagu has signed a USD10.4 million agreement with equipment supplier Alcatel to expand its mobile coverage to new islands in the Maldives chain of atolls. The cellco hopes that the deal, which is due for completion in early 2006, will enable it to provide services to the majority of the population.

In a separate story, Dhiraagu has also signed a MoU with Sri Lanka Telecom for the implementation of a fibre-optic submarine cable between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
