Broadband connections almost double in a year

The number of broadband lines in Argentina reached 584,781 at the end of June 2005, up 97.5% compared to 296,163 a year earlier, according to government statistics agency Indec. The total number of residential internet connections reached 2.1 million at the same date, up 19.3% from 1.76 million a year before. Of the total internet accounts, 1.12 million are paid-for subscriptions and 981,083 are free accounts. The number of dial-up accounts dropped 11.4% in the period. In the business sector, Indec reported 109,354 broadband subscriptions, 64,349 dial-up accounts and 12,579 fixed-wireless point-to-point connections at end-June 2005.
