Bulgarian regulator the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) has reported that six telecoms companies have lodged bids to acquire high speed wireless point-to-multi-point (PT2MP) licences. Dominant fixed line operator BTC, majority owned by US equity fund Advent, and leading mobile provider MobilTel, controlled by Telekom Austria, will compete with four smaller local players for the concessions. BTC named the rival bidders as Nexcom Bulgaria, Trans Telekom, CableNet and Carrier BG. The first auction is to be held on 11 October for two ‘Class A’ permits with capacity of 21MHz, with bidding to start at BGL1.344 million (EUR687,000). Three further ‘Class B’ licences with 10.5MHz capacity will be auctioned on 25 October, with starting bids set at BGL672,000 (EUR344,000).
