Movilnet, the Venezuelan cellco owned by national PTO CANTV, has extended its CDMA2000 1xEV-DO wireless network to the Paraguachón region, covering the town of Guarero in the Páez municipality near the Colombian border. Movilnet launched CDMA services in November 2002 over a network consisting of 450 cell sites. In 2004 it said it planned to invest around USD230 million in new technologies by the end of 2007, including USD200 million to fund a 45% increase in the number of its CDMA2000 1x EV-DO radio base stations; the cellco currently has coverage of around 95% of the population.
