DT exits MTS

13 Sep 2005

Germany’s Deutsche Telekom (DT) has sold its final 10.1% stake in Russian cellco Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) for USD1.6 billion via the biggest ever share placement seen in the Russian market. DT has been gradually reducing its holding in MTS over the past two years. The shares were placed on the market after talks with MTS’ majority shareholder Sistema failed to yield a sale. Sistema currently owns 50.4% of MTS.
