Orange keeps an eye on Indian mobile market

French mobile giant Orange says it wants to launch services in India, but only when the country’s market conditions have become more favourable, according to the group’s CEO Sanjiv Ahuja. Speaking at the India-EU Business Summit earlier this week, Mr Ahuja said that, although India’s potential is huge, Orange has so far refrained from entering its mobile sector because of the government-imposed limits on foreign ownership and the lack of progress in allocating 3G spectrum to operators. He said that Orange wants a controlling stake in any future Indian venture, and added that the company would be very keen to provide 3G services.
