Mexican telecoms group Telmex has confirmed that it plans to participate in the upcoming auction of 13 wireless in the local loop (WiLL) licences in Chile, according to local press reports. The fixed line service provider recently said that wireless technology forms a major part of its strategy to expand its broadband coverage in the country, where it provides local, long-distance and international telephony, internet access, and data transmission services to large corporations, SMEs and residential customers. Regulator Subtel plans to launch the auctions on 15 September and has recognised Telmex as the chief interested party.
