Number portability deadline announced

31 Aug 2005

New Zealand’s Commerce Commission has said it plans to introduce fixed and mobile number portability by April 2007. The watchdog has determined the costs and how these will be allocated between telcos based on market share. The Commission’s head, Douglas Webb, said the new regulations will create “an efficient industrywide solution … for all local and cellular users”; number portability is currently only available for certain fixed line customers.
