Maltese regulator the MCA has awarded 3G concessions to the country’s two incumbent GSM operators, Vodafone and Go Mobile. The two operators applied for the licences earlier this year, and a due diligence process was instituted for each transaction, which have now been completed. A third company, 3G Telecommunications, is also set to be awarded a 3G concession, but its due diligence process is currently still ongoing. The three operators will have 60 months to complete their network rollout, after which time they are required to have achieved nationwide coverage.
