TVA and Intel plan WiMAX launch

Brazilian cable TV operator TVA and US-based chip manufacturer Intel have struck an alliance to create a WiMAX broadband wireless service. The two companies plan to launch services in Brazil in 2006, with initial coverage of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Curitiba and Porto Alegre. Each WiMAX transmitter will provide broadband access of up to 75Mbps, over a 50km radius.
