Pair to sell ‘kosher’ handsets

26 Aug 2005

Two of Israel’s cellcos have revealed that they will begin marketing ‘kosher’ handsets to the ultra-orthodox Jewish Haredi community. Cellcom and Pelephone say the phones will be voice-capable only and will not be able to send or receive SMS nor access the internet. The launch comes after Haredi leaders voiced concerns that wireless content constituted a threat to the sanctity of their community.
